Hey Guys!! Sorry, it’s been a while but let’s catch up. I read sixty-five books in 2021. Not quite the 100 I read in 2020 but thankfully I didn’t spend as much of ’21 in quarantine.
Quick life update then into the reading stats! I’ll graduate in May with my
Associate Degree in Advanced Full Stack Web Development. We bought a house in July of ’21 and we’ve settled in quite nicely. We think our previous rental home had mold because both Dave (the cat) and I are breathing better. As for the rest of my health, no longer working outside of the home has helped my quality of life but it is still easy to overdo it. Waiting on paperwork to get a consultation at the Mayo Clinic because we still don’t know what’s wrong. I also gained three new little sisters via foster to adopt and have spent much of fall ’21 getting to know them.

My Favorite Books Each Month:
In January I read Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi for the gazillionth time. As much as I love reading Shatter Me you’d think I’d get around to reading the rest of the series but alas my library doesn’t have them.
I was gifted an ebook copy of A Court of Silver Flames by the amazingly lovely @bookishvirginia while stuck at home due to a freak February snowstorm. I will always hold close to the memory of hiding under a blanket fort with my kitten Kali binging ACOSF. I loved this book so much I read it three times this year…oops.
My favorite audiobook of March was Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn. I’m unsure whether it was intentional or not but the love interest Reid showed many level one Autism traits. It’s very rare, in my experience, to find an autistic supporting character that isn’t there for the pity points. As a level one Autistic individual myself it was beautiful to watch Meg fall in love with someone who I related to so strongly.
OCDaniel by Wesley King in April hit a little too close to home. My own struggle with OCD tendencies fluctuates based on how well I’m coping with the pain from my chronic illness and the other stresses of life. It was heartbreaking to see a high-schooler struggling through horrible compulsions and trying to manage the trials of teenage hormones.
For the month of May, I read several WWII books but my favorite was The Paris Library by Janet Skeslien Charles. The parallels between a modern girl’s struggles with life and death versus her neighbors past in surviving the Nazi occupation in France were very well done. The characters were well-rounded and left you feeling their emotions.
I read Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo in June. I love when authors use poetry to tell a whole story not just individual poems. I feel like poetry gives a unique emotional perspective on life so different from my own.
In July, @writerdragonbriana, @lexi_biondi_,@sarahesmaewolf, and I started a group read of The Lightening Thief by Rick Riordian. If you’ve spent any time at all on my page you know this book is the cornerstone of my childhood reading obsession.
Ravenlight by Melissa Riddell was an adorable novella. I listened to the audiobook all in one day because my heart needed to be full of the love these characters had for each other.
We wrapped up our Percy Jackson group read with The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan in September. For 2022, We’ve convinced Sarah that she has to read The Heros of Olympus series with us too!
My Halloween Costume as Annabeth Chase –>
Currently obsessed with Fae stories and when the popular TikTok author Analeigh Ford published A Veil of Truth and Trickery. I love this book on so many levels but the best physical feature is the cover. The cover is laminate so the picture is laminated onto the hardcover with no pesky dust jacket to keep track of.

I thought I might die from impatience waiting for the November release of Fighting Monsters by Rita Stradling and Alexa B. James. I had to set myself limits to stop from binging this much-awaited sequel to Escaping Monsters. Now to complete the interminable wait for the finale Hunting Monsters.

My husband and I watched the Netflix show Shadow and Bone earlier in ’21 and my impatience for season 2 led me to binge the trilogy this December. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo was great both as a show and as a book. I still need to read the other series Six of Crows but I’m definitely a part of the Grishaverse Fandom now! In a way, I slightly regret reading the books because now I’ll be disappointed by the Netflix show but my self-control is very limited when it comes to reading.
Check out some of the Merch we have for a few of my 2021 reads!
